Every year, young mothers from all over America leave their children behind and set out to the heartland of the United States to compete for the title of Mother of the Year. One of these hopeful candidates will go on to impress the judges and become the reigning national representative of mothers all over the country.
This feature-length documentary film will follow three women as they leave their crucial roles at home and go on the journey of a lifetime. From a tough Midwestern farmer’s wife with five kids to a wealthy East Coast mother of two to a working mother in Iowa, we will explore these women’s different worlds attempting to understand their hopes and dreams, pressures and fears.

The film will mix verite footage of the contest with archive, photographs and interviews to paint an intimate picture of the high-octane culture of motherhood in America today.
